From the Writers and Authors Series

Most self-published books don’t fail because the author lacked talent. They fail because the book was released unprepared.

Here’s what that looks like in real life:

You upload your files. You announce your launch. You refresh the page. You wait.

And then… nothing.

A few pity likes. A couple supportive comments. Maybe a sale or two. No steady traffic. No traction. No visibility. No momentum. The book is technically available—but practically invisible.

That outcome is common, and it is avoidable.

Because self-publishing is not just “putting a book online.” It’s entering a marketplace where readers make split-second decisions and where early performance shapes future discoverability. If your book isn’t publish-ready—if the editing is uneven, the formatting is distracting, the packaging is unclear, the description doesn’t convert, the details aren’t aligned—you’re not just risking a slow start.

You’re risking being buried.

Ready, Set, Publish: The Essential Pre-Publishing Roadmap for First-Time Authors is the solution for authors who refuse to let their launch become a quiet disappointment.

This book gives you the step-by-step roadmap to prepare your manuscript and your publishing assets before release—so your book earns trust quickly, meets platform requirements, and is positioned to compete for attention from day one.

Inside, you’ll learn how to:

  • identify the exact pre-publication steps that determine sales and discoverability
  • avoid the common mistakes that quietly sabotage first impressions
  • present your book professionally so readers feel confident buying it
  • build a clear, repeatable plan that eliminates guesswork and prevents last-minute chaos
  • release with a strategy designed for traction—not hope

Writing the manuscript is just the beginning. What you do next determines whether your book launches with momentum—or gets lost.

If you’re serious about your book being read, recommended, and bought, you need a roadmap before you need more marketing.

Stop guessing. Stop rushing. Stop hoping your book “finds its audience.”

Give it the preparation it needs to earn attention.

Buy Ready, Set, Publish now—then follow the steps and release your book the right way.

Fantastic Resource for Anyone Self-Publishing

What a great book! So much information and tips that are clearly laid out in chapters. It takes you step-by-step of the process and keeps it simple and clear with no extra waffle.

This book has saved me hours of time and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to get their book published.

A Basic Read for First-Time Self-Publishers

This book covers the process of how to take that manuscript and hit publish for the first time, with several basic considerations and a checklist to ensure no step is missed.

This book is not for intermediate publishers who already know the basic process of self-publishing.***

Critically, the book does not adequately cover the marketing of the book***, which is the most important piece for actually making sales. Still, a good start book for anyone needing help to get past the roadblock of getting the first book out.

***NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR: Thank you very much for your 5-star review. However, to address your criticisms, the book sub-title states for “first-time authors”, which is not to say intermediate authors couldn’t learn a thing or two from reading my book (trust me, they can). Next, the book doesn’t address the marketing of the book because it’s book 1 in my Author Series and marketing will be covered in book 2. This book was only addressing the publishing part of self-publishing. Thank you, Veronica G.

A Must-Read Before You Start Creating!

I think this book is a great general guide for indie authors. If you’re planning to publish your first book, you’ll find points you may never have considered during the preparation process.

It also explains the consequences of certain actions, so you don’t end up repeating work unnecessarily.

The book is divided into clear chapters and subchapters, each filled with interesting insights. It highlights useful services, their advantages, and even typical costs for things like proofreading. It also shows how to achieve professional-quality results even as an amateur.

If you’re planning to publish your first book, this is a must-read before you start creating.

A Practical Roadmap for First-Time Self-Publishers

A practical guide with structured advice aimed at ensuring that it’s ready for release. Specific sections on editing, formatting, positioning and descriptions.

Sometimes this book comes across as a bit repetitive, but the overall path-plan will give confidence to first-time writers who are dead serious about trying out this profession and save them time.

Don’t Publish Unprepared

This book clearly explains why so many self-published books fail. They fail because they’re released unprepared. The author provides a practical step-by-step roadmap for what to do before a book launch, cover the specific pre-launch details—editing, formatting, and descriptions—that directly affect visibility and results.

The advice is straightforward and realistic, focused on proper preparation. The book makes no false promises; it provides the actual steps that drive sales.

This book is especially valuable for first-time authors who want to avoid costly mistakes and publish with confidence.

Great Book for New Publishers

A step-by-step guide for rookie publishers. Essentials of pre-publishing was a well-written book with each paragraph in line. Well spaced so that you’re able to focus on the information being presented to you at the time. I really like how they did that because it made me get the concepts more readily than having to search through paragraph upon paragraph to find one idea.

Each part of writing a book was well-written and described in detail from the title to editing to book covers and description. It went into detail about each area and gave me a good view of what it’s like to publishe or self-publish a book.

Whether you write fiction or non-fiction, this book is for you as it covers both.

Lays a Solid Foundation for Self-Publishing

I think Veronica has all the bases covered on what you need to create a solid foundation to self-publish an eBook and/or a physical book in Ready, Set, Publish.

From what I can tell, if you follow these steps your book will at least stand a chance, but it probably won’t sell anything like she says ($500 a month)*** without some kind of marketing and promotion, and that is really not covered at all.

If you need a ‘complete’, this might not be it—but it does lay a solid foundation and looks doable.

***COMMENT FROM THE AUTHOR: Thank you for the review. However, I would like to state that NOWHERE in my book do I mention anything about any financial ROI no less $500! Also, this book isn’t the ‘complete package’ because it’s book 1 in a series for authors. This book ONLY covers pre-publishing topics to make sure the book is ready for publishing! Thank you, Veronica G.

Essential Guide for the Self-Publisher

This publishing guide is amazing. Step-by-step instructions and checklists. The book tells you not only what you need to do but, more importantly, why.

Each step in the self-publishing process is explained and set out in order so the reader knows exactly what to do.

While reading this guide, I found several places where my own publishing adventure had misstepped or left something out.

Great book for the self-publisher.

Highly recommend!

I Wish I Had This Book Back in 2008!

Every new indie authors needs this phenomenal book. Veronica Goldspiel has created the comprehensive guide I wish I’d had as a first-time indie author back in 2008, fumbling around in the dark, so to speak.

Back then, I had no idea that writing the book was the easy part (and for me, it was), but only the first step in a multi-faceted process to online publication.

With her characteristic humor, extensive knowledge, and passion for helping other authors, Goldspiel leaves no stone unturned in creating a useful, practical tool for indie publishing success.

A Clear and Comprehensive Guide for Writers Seeking to Publish

This book is an effective tool for writers wishing to prepare a manuscript for publication. The content is thorough and detailed, while remaining clear and easy to follow, largely in part due to its strong organization and direct, to-the-point language. It was easy to read the whole book relatively quickly to get the big picture, and I can envision going back to specific sections to work through step-by-step actions—exactly how the author intended.

I think this book serves as a high-quality tool to support writers across many genres who wish to self-publish.

Essential Advice for Self-Published Authors

As a published author, writer of book reviews and “blurbs”, and co-owner of a small press, I cannot help but speak directly: Ready, Set, Publish should be considered required reading for anyone serious about self-publishing their book.

I have been presented with books of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry self-published by aspiring authors at writing conferences and retreats for many years. My advice is often, “There’s something really good in here…somewhere. Next time, get help from a publisher or editor or save yourself time, money and frustration. You are killing your book.”

What I am going to do in the future is direct them to Amazon to purchase this book.

Ms. Goldspiel addresses the principal issues that trip up self-published authors in clear, businesslike language. Not only does she name the problems, she furnishes realistic, cost-effective solutions, directing the struggling author to the help they need.

Some of her advice seems like “common sense” to the uninitiated. I learned a lot in reviewing Ready, Set, Publish. I must admit I wish I knew some of this when submitting my books to small press publishers and before self-publishing my own non-fiction.

Ready, Set, Publish covers all the essential information veteran self-published (and many small press-published) authors learn the hard way. Chapters deal with everything formatting and title selection to the importance of understanding ISBN and copyright. There is even a pre-publishing checklist for those of us (myself included) whose ADHD can get in the way of retaining the most important steps.

I intend to consult this book in preparing future non-fiction and fiction books for submission or self-publication. I recommend it highly to anyone comtemplating taking the leap into publishing your own work.

The Complete Blueprint for Self-Publishing Success

In Ready, Set, Publish, Veronica Goldspiel shares the complete bluepring for book publishing success. I only wish I’d known about this book before I self-published. Instead of searching for information across the internet dozens of times, I could have had all the steps in one convenient, well-organized book.

But equipped with the details and checklists here, I’ll be more prepared the next time I publish.

I recommend this book especially to first-time self-publishers but really to anyone who could use an organized guide.
